Review: Oxygen's Debut Single ‘Without A Trace’

by Ella McGivern

I have a feeling the release of Oxygen’s debut single will be the beginning of something big
for them. "Without A Trace" hit streaming platforms at the beginning of this month and it has beautifully established the band's sound.
This debut was no quick decision for the band, as they have been playing festivals and gigs
for almost a year around London and the South. Some notable venues include; most recently, The Victoria, Dalston; and The Old Blue Last. As a result, the band have racked up almost 2,000 followers on Instagram.
"Without A Trace" marks a confident start for Oxygen, especially with the track allowing the
band many opportunities in how they want to sound in future songs. The comparison
between hazy vocals and quieter periods of the song, to then smashing into exciting sounds
and energy; I think this is what makes this track so strong and gives opportunity for them to
develop with both sides of the sound.
I wasn’t sure what to expect on my first listen but the slow starting hum and vocals really
drew my attention and after finishing the song, it had exceeded my expectations. The
cymbals in the bridge are an unreal way to strip back the song before ripping into the final
chorus and kick the of the vocals.
Overall, Oxygen and their debut single should definitely be on your radar. The song came
out at a challenging time and a turning point for the band; the song turned the restlessness
of finding your feet as a band, into something spectacular and exhilarating. I am a massive
fan of songs with this vibe which made me an easy fan of this song and now I am very
excited to hear what comes next for them.
Check out Oxygen’s new promo video on YouTube for "Without A Trace" and definitely give
the new single a listen!
