In-between 60s rock ‘n’ roll and 90s shoegaze you’ll find Waterpistol, an up-and-coming band from South-Wales. Having recently been awarded the BBC Horizons’ 2026 launchpad fund, the six-piece have returned with She Flies, the latest single off their upcoming EP Hey Harry.
Gaining influence from artists such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Shack and The La’s, Waterpistol melts together the swagger of golden-age rock ‘n’ roll with hazy textures from 90s shoegaze. She Flies is no exception to this genre blend. Energetic vocals buttered over groovy rhythms; the track has a striking feel to it. Radio presenter Emily Pilbeam summed it up best on BBC 6 Music calling it ‘a bit of sweet indie rock.’
This latest release comes after a number of notable achievements since their formation.
Garnering an impressive catalogue of live performances within their first year, from supporting CVC’s sold-out hometown show to a variety of festivals, Waterpistol went on to put their talent in the recording studio. Racking up 30,000 Spotify streams with their debut single living in a Dream, the band went on to release two follow-up singles before turning to their EP project.

Releasing this summer, the self-recorded EP is also set to feature their previous single Felin, which came alongside a BBC Radio Wales live session with Huw Stephens. There is also news that the band will be performing at this year’s FOCUS Wales as a spotlight artist for God Is In The TV Zine. Currently independent, Waterpistol are a delightful reminder of what can result when bands are free to carve out their own sound.
Discussing their newest release, songwriter Harry Watton remarked ‘As any good poet would say, it’s about a lot of things and nothing at all’ letting the listener take the song anyway we want. One thing is for sure though, She Flies shows exactly why rock ‘n’ roll is timeless.
You can catch Waterpistol at various different events across the summer including All Roads Festival, FOCUS Wales and Orange Light Festival.
