Two of Rock’s Brightest Rising Bands Take Over Boston: Wunderhorse & Been Stellar at Royale

Boston’s Royale was packed with energy last night as Been Stellar and Wunderhorse delivered a show that proved why both bands are among the most exciting names in modern rock. With two standout live acts sharing the bill, it felt less like an opener and a headliner and more like a celebration of where guitar music is headed. 

Been Stellar kicked off the night with a set full of soaring guitars, explosive dynamics, and the kind of confidence that’s impossible to fake. Their songs translated even better live, balancing atmospheric moments with huge, cathartic payoffs that had the crowd hooked from the start. The band also treated fans to two unreleased songs, giving the audience an exciting glimpse at what’s next (and I personally am very excited for these two tracks to drop.) Even without knowing their titles yet, they fit seamlessly into the set and hinted at an already promising future. 

Wunderhorse opened their set with “Midas,” immediately setting the tone for what would become one of the most captivating performances I’ve seen this year. Jacob Slater commanded the stage without ever feeling over-the-top, while the rest of the band played with a level of chemistry and intensity that made every song hit even harder than it does on the record. Their ability to shift from quiet, restrained moments on songs like “Superman” to walls of distorted guitars felt completely effortless, and the crowd responded to every twist and turn. 

Like Been Stellar, Wunderhorse also looked toward the future by debuting two unreleased tracks, “Promises” and “Kerosene.” Both songs were met with huge enthusiasm, and if they’re any indication of where the band is headed next, fans have a lot to look forward to. 

What made the night especially memorable was how perfectly these two bands complimented each other. Both brought their own distinct sound while sharing the same emotional intensity and undeniable stage presence. The audience sang along, cheered loudly after every song, and never let the energy fade. 

For anyone lucky enough to be at Royale last night, this was the kind of concert that reminds you why live music is so special. Been Stellar and Wunderhorse are firing on all cylinders, and this tour is one that absolutely shouldn’t be missed.
