Waylon Wyatt brought a youthful energy and an easygoing confidence to Higher Ground in South Burlington, turning the room into the kind of space where it felt less like watching a show and more like being part of a shared night out.

From the start, Wyatt showed why his music connects so well in a live setting. His songs have plenty of heart on record, but onstage they take on a little more grit and momentum. There was a looseness to the performance that kept things feeling natural, while his vocals carried the emotional weight of the songs without making the night feel overly polished or rehearsed.

The crowd was clearly along for the ride, responding enthusiastically as Wyatt moved through the set. That connection was probably the biggest strength of the night. He seemed comfortable letting the audience energy become part of the performance, creating an atmosphere that was warm, lively and distinctly Vermont-concert-in-the-summer.

Higher Ground also proved to be a fitting venue for the show. The room has an intimate feel that makes it easy for an artist to connect with a crowd, and Wyatt took advantage of that. Even as the energy picked up, the performance never felt distant or overly produced.

What stood out most was Wyatt's sense of authenticity. There's a straightforwardness to his songwriting and performance style that makes the songs easy to settle into, and live, that quality becomes even more apparent. He doesn't need a lot of spectacle to hold the room; the songs and the connection with the audience do most of the work.

By the end of the night, Wyatt had made a strong impression, not through flashy theatrics, but through genuine energy, solid musicianship and songs that clearly mean something to the people singing along. It was a relaxed, feel-good show that left the crowd with plenty of reason to come back the next time Wyatt rolls through town.
